The Pirate Who Lost His Dog!!

Hello family and friends,

Right now you may be thinking that the title to my Email this week is a little interesting... well it is interesting and it is interesting for a reason. On your mission you meet some pretty interesting people, especially in Hereford. Imagine going around an entire city and talking to every single  person you see! Your bound to meet someone weird right! Ya, well, me and Elder Jenkins have had some very interesting experiences.
This week Elder Jenkins and I , prayerfully identified a street to tract called Hampton. Hampton is on the edge of something the Locals call THE DARK SIDE! It gets that name because it is a bit Dodgey; there's a lot of shady characters in the Area! It is where all the stabbings happen and such. Well on this particular occasion me and Elder Jenkins are knocking the doors of Hampton when we soon notice there are a lot of weird people that live on this street! The first door we knock on was a little creepy and the man who answered was even creepier! He was probably 50 and he had long, long dark greasy slimmy hair! in his left ear he had a gold earing. He had a grey beard that was as greasy as his hair and his teeth looked like they had been rotting for years! i could of sworn i saw a wooden leg, just kidding! No but this guy seriously looked like a Pirate! and yes he even had a raspy pirate voice! Next to him he had a short dog that looked like it had been beaten! as soon as he opened the door the dog ran out. when the pirate saw us he shouted no and then slammed the door in our face!  He didnt let his dog back in his house though, so the dog just waited by the door while me and Elder Jenkins continued to knock on the other doors on the street.
Me and Elder Jenkins continued to see some weird people on the street we met a man who kept winking at us! We asked if he was interested in our mesageand he would say " no i'm not interested in your message" and then he would add a couple winks after that! it was super awkward the whole time i didnt know if he was hitting on us or if he was just kidding and he was really interested in the mesage! then we met a lady who liked to yell! i dont mean she yelled cause she was mad at us,she was actually very nice and polite. she just had an incredibly loud voice! we were like standing right next to her and she litterally screamed "NO THANK YOU I'M NOT INTERESTED! YOU  ENJOY THE SUNSHINE!". Then we met an old man who was dual weilding canes ( that means he had two canes; one in each hand). and he was moving slower than a snail. He was very nice though. then we knocked on a crazy lady's home! she was talking about all sorts of crazy things with us and then the lady that takes care of her came out and said to leave Haha!
After all this happened me and Elder Jenkins went to go unlock our bikes when something happened! The Pirate came out! he opened his door and just started screaming at us in his best pirate voice! he said some pretty bad words that i cant repeat Haha. The sad thing is that me and Elder Jenkins werent even offended because we were laughing too hard! BAsically he got super mad at us for knocking on people's doors and then he blamed us for losing his dog! he told us that we lost his dog and we got to go find him cause the dog is the only thing he loves! It could of been a pretty touching story if he didnt have the smell of cigarettes and beer in his voice and his dog didnt look like it was beaten to death. We did end up finding the dog though! except he wouldnt come near us cause he was so abused! I'm sure the dog found his way home though!

I guess i should explain some of the pictures! Sorry i wasnt able to get a picture of the pirate. One of the pictures shows mine and elder jenkins ice cream shake challege it wasnt too difficult. another is a picture of an ELDERly sign that we saw and we couldnt not get a picture in front of it! Since we are elders! although i do think it's weird that they have a sign to warn people that there are old people about! the other pictures are of me in front of my bike cause you have been wanting one so bad mom. oh and that is ELDER WEIHING that i carved into a candle. Candle Carving has become one of my new hobbies!

Missions are great! Its not always easy though! we do get yelled at a lot in the streets. Some of the kids like to call us "The God Squad" its a pretty cool nickname! Thanks for all the letters everyone! Remember all the Cool missionaries get post! so keep sending them.

                                                                                        Elder Weihing

oh p.s mark is getting baptized in april after his wedding and Maria and her daughter will hopefully be on a baptismal date at the end of this week!

March 15, 2011

Hey fam and friends and others,

It's been another enjoyable week on the mission, full of excitement and disappointment. First of all let me talk to you about a few of the good things about England before i forget. #1 Nutella- Netella is found in America as well but i've never had it, it is a chocolate hazelnut spread. It is huge here! and let me tell ya i was missing out. First thing i want you to do after reading this email, is go out to your nearest grocery store and buy some Nuttela! then go home toast some bread and spread some Nuttela on that baby! It taste like pure Heaven! #2 is called squash and it is a drink here in England, next week i'll send you a picture of it. No its not squash flavored drink! it is just called squash.Basically you just pour a little bit of squash in a cup and then fill the rest of the cup up with water! its super duper i'm gonna fill one of my suitcases with it when i come home. Other than those two great things the food is pretty plain here! they do have good deserts here though! they don't call it desert though , they call it pudding.

Apparently Hereford has the highest concentration of pubs in the country. Thats kind of a big deal because there are a butt load of pubs in England in General. so to be in the city with the highest concentration of pubs makes street contacting a bit interesting. Sometimes it's a funny experience sometimes its not so great. On Friday night me and Elder Jenkins were doing some late night street contacting in town center! so it being a Friday night and it being town center it was very interesting haha! Me and Elder Jenkins were talking to this polish girl (p.s mom send me polish things so i can learn polish) . so while we are having a great conversation with this girl this drunk guy comes up to us basically yelling at us to see if we got a "fag" or in other words a cigarette. So we are teaching this girl about Jesus Christ while a drunk guy is yelling "you got a FAG" " are you stupid Mormons" ! so elder Jenkins takes the opportunity to start teaching the drunk guy while i teach the polish girl. elder Jenkins ends up giving the book of Mormon to the drunk guy and shares some scriptures with him to show him that he will see his daughter again and the drunk guy starts crying in the middle of the street haha! the polish girl wants to learn better English and wants to read the Book of Mormon and gives us all her contact info! Ended up being a great night. as we were biking away we saw the drunk guy  huddled up in a ditch reading the book of mormon.

We also have bad experiences though! we always get heckled at in the streets. Missionary work isnt always pleasant most of the time people stare at you or give you mean gestures or shout things out at you. Missionaries aren't exactly loved here in England but hey that's alright cause some people do listen and some people do change and that's all that matters. By the way i got lots of post today i'm excited to read them! thanks for the letters they are awesome! plus all the cool missionaries get post!

Elder Weihing

p.s " were ya born in a barn" is being spread across England like a wildfire!

Jordan didn't tell us what this is... I'll ask and hopefully he will tell us next week!

Hello family friends and others
Happy Birthday to everyone! i would say happy birthday to everyone individually but there are just too many!
Jared, the mini missionary me and Elder Jenkins were training, finally had to go back home. We shall miss him. I never really told you much about this Jared character and i think now would be a good time. I gave Jared a nickname, i called him webster. He knew everything! i dunno if her really knew everything but he was just one of those people that when you started talking about something he had some experience in the subject. It kind of reminds me of those Beer Comercials about the most interesting man in the world because jared has done everything. Jared like to talk a lot it was very funny and it has been weird not having him around cause its really quiet now......almost too quiet. It was a lot of fun teasing him and i will miss him. It was a lot of fun debating him.... you all know how i enjoy a good debate! Well since Jared knew the answer to every question in the world i had a very very fun time debating with him no matter what his answer was, he even if i agreed with what his answer was. Elder Jenkins really enjoyed the show! Haha. We especially got in to a major debate about politics haha cause every english person thinks that republicans are from satan!
Heather Diffey, the lady we baptized last week is doing super duper she is already spreading the gospel to her friends and family like a wildfire! She is gonna be like a relief society president soon cause she is so good! Cool thing is that if she goes to the temple while i'm on my mission then i me and Elder Jenkins will be able to go with her! Also if she went it would be the London temple so that would be awesome possum!
Mark is still planning on being baptized a week after his wedding in April. He said we are invited to the wedding too! Never thought i would be attending a wedding on my mission haha! Elder Jenkins said that one of his companions was a best man to an investigator that was being baptized! So i have decided to really suck up to Mark so then he will choose me to be the best man! Haha. Doesnt make sense calling the person the Best Man though because if he is the best man why isnt she marrying him!ha  thought i would throw in a little humor.
Me and Elder Jenkins are still trying to find more people to teach its kind of hard though because apparently Hereford has the highest concentration of pubs in the Country!! which is kind of a big deal for england cause england in general just has a lot of pubs! but i guess Herefords got the most! Ya it makes for meeting people on the street a very interesting experience haha! we have been threatened a couple times! and last saturday a random drunk guy just came up to me and put his arm around me and started singing about manchester, I thought it was a pleasent experience until he randomly started screaming random swear words at me! Oh awesome!
Oh and for P-day this week we went up to credenhill where some ancient civilization used to live! it was like an hour bike ride on a gradual hill! But hey it was a very nice ride back down!
I wrote the family some post the other day and then i wrote Nathaniel a letter as well! I bought Nathaniel a Teddy Bear one of these days i will get around to sending it to him.

February 23, 201 Worlds Largest Curry

This is our worlds largest Curry! Curry is super big here in England it is now just as big as fish and chips! We bought a gigantic bag of rice and then covered our table with a trash bag and plopped it all on the table and ate it with our hands! haha just kidding we didnt use our hands! These are the cool things we do on P-days our next great development is worlds largest bowl of cereal! if you got any great ideas about how to make a giant bowl let me know!

Hey family:

Heather has asked me to baptize her! Her Baptism is on saturday i will send pictures! she is so so so so great i'm pretty sure she will be going through the temple in a yeat! cool thing is that i get to go to the temple with her if she goes!

Marks baptism is in april!

We are working hard all day everyday and it is a lot of fun! we are having a lot of success here! president wrote us again this week thanking us for the hard work. It's a bit nerve racking cause i hope he doesnt expect this kind of success everywhere i go haha!

I also have to i mean get to give a talk in church this sunday. I was a little frustrated cause we are so busy this week planning heathers baptism! Its so weird planning a baptism. I didnt know that we were supposed put all these things together. Me and Elder Jenkins assign the talks everything haha its kind of stressful. Keep praying for me and all the people here cause we need the help we cant do this alone.

Pictures:

February 16, 2011

Hello family, friends, and others

I bring good tidings from our Mother Country here in England. Need i say the Field is white and already to harvest, and boy am i thrusting in my sickle! 2 Baptisms!!!!!!.........pshhhhhh and people say we are planting seeds! More like Hunting bucks if you ask me! i shall not boast in my own strength but i will boast in the strength of my God! Heather is being baptized not this saturday but the next! she will be my 5th baptism so far..................Just kidding...........she is the first of hopefully many baptisms! Mark is going to be baptized on april 23. Why so far away? cause he is getting married on the 16th of april. Since he is living with his fiance we kinda got to wait till he gets married.

Heather,

Heather is what some people call a golden investigator.... I will no longer call people Golden Investigators, i will now call them Heathers! haha! that sounds like a really bad Chuck Norris joke or something. Ya she was super duper prepared by God. We barely teach her she mostly teaches us haha she bears her testimony that we teach is true before we teach her haha! Cool thing about heather is the first person that i talked to on the Streets of Hereford that accepted an appointment. She was one of the very first persons i talked to. i'll take lots of pictures! I am trying to think of a Gift i could give her at her baptism if you have any ideas Email them to me please!!!!!!!

Oh and i am now a part of a threesome! atleast for a little while. I am the youngest trainer ever haha! Jared Reeks is my 3rd companion and he is just serving a mini mission he lives in the forest of dean which is like an hour away from Hereford. He hasnt even been through the MTC or anything and he doesnt even have a name badge. Is dad dropped him off at our flat (apartment) saaturday night. He is pretty cool and he is very prepared for his mission. His mission papers are with his stake president right now so he is hoping to turn in his papers pretty soon.

A couple interesting things about England compared to America:

People in England think republicans are like from satan or something haha

having your own house is kind of rare if you dont live on a farm..... most people live in like town home type things

Inside peoples houses or flats, space is precious! Kitchens are way small and fridges are usually a half if not a fourth the size of ours.

Most people have washing machines but most dont have drying machines. I hang my clothes out to dry

Almost no one has a dishwasher

people's homes are cramed and they dont worry as much about how good there house looks on the inside

English words:
Posh-wealthy
Mate-dude
goosepimples-goosebumps
Bruv-bro
flat- apartment
gas like for a car not from your bum - petrol

There are a lot more but i cant think of them all right now

I'm not so sure about you guys picking me up 1) beacause i will still be set apart 2) it will be winter in England and the summer is way more beautiful

But if you want to wait to come to england till june for my birthday after i come home then it will be way cooler beacause it will be summer and we can go look at some really cool castles and stuff. Petrol here is way expensive though! like 9 american dollars per gallon!!!

The work is going great and when you come out here you really realize how true this Church is. I thought i used to know the Church was true but now i really really know the church is true! If you really want to know its true you can find out it is but i cant just tell you its true and you believe me. you have to find out its true for yourself! I know that if you want to know the truth you will find it in this church and it is a FACT! this Church is either true or a lie there is no where inbetween, No middle ground. I am your brother, your son, your friend, i am here to share this message with absolutly everyone i know see and meet and that includes you! I would not lie to you if you were here i would look you directly on the eye and tell you " I know this church is the only true church on this earth! Do you? if not, find out for yourself , because i love you,  and i want you to know the truth"

you guys can all write me it only takes 4 days to get here cause Post is so big here

Pictures from my Flat - February 8, 2011

I forgot to tell you but those pictures i just sent were taken from my front window. Hereford is a somewhat small town! The outskirts of town or gorgeouse just green lucious hills its just like in the movies.

February 8, 2011

The work is going super duper fantastic! and i am not just saying that! One of our investigators is on a baptismal date for april 23! we have to wait until he gets married on april 16th or something like that and we are invited to the wedding haha! he has even asked for me to be the best man! Just kidding! I wish! Then we are planning on having Heather and Donna on a date sometime this week! So me and Elder Jenkins could have 3 investigators on a baptismal date!!!!! I wont brag but i will boast in the Lord! when i first got here a month ago we had absolutly no investigators and now look at how much the Lord has blessed us! We work hard every second of every day and talk to absolutly everyone we see, and it has paid off! We do everything we can and give a 110% and the Lord takes care of the rest! I don't know how he does it but he does! It wasnt anything special that me and Elder Jenkins did we have just met people that are so prepared! We actually got a personal hand written letter from President Ogden today thanking us for our hard work and success. but thats not all!
Me and Elder Jenkins got a call yesterday from the AP's (Assistants to the President) so we were pretty worried to pick up the phone haha! If they are calling it is either cause we are in trouble or there is big news! they told us that they are thinking of sending us another companion!!!!! We will be a THREESOME! But this companion isnt just anybody he is a Greenie! In England some people who are thinking about serving missions are allowed to go on Mini Missions. I guess thats what he is. so he will only be serving with us for like a transfer ( 6 weeks). It is just a chance for him to see what missionary work is like and if he wants to do it. So he will most likely be an englishman! The cool thing is that i guess most of the time these Mini missionaries are sent to be companions to AP's and stuff but they are deciding to send him to us! haha! so i guess we must be doing something right.
By the way you guys are allowed to send letters! or in England we call it Post! Post is really really really big here! if you dont get post your a loser pretty much so send me post cause it only takes about 4 days to get here.

Hey how is my blog going? Make sure you post my address on my Blog sight! Have you guys gotten any of the pictures i send in my emails? Did you guys see the armor of God lesson we had at the Hissy's check it out on Simeons Facebook page!

p.s When its rainey and cloudy everyday, it sure does make the sun a special sight

February 1, 2011

That's a cool bridge in Hereford! there is a cool cathedral in Hereford I'll try and get a good picture but its hard cause i don't want to look like a tourist.

Yes that is me in a cool red booth like the one in Harry Potter. Everything you see in Harry Potter is real life here! Seeing people with scars on their heads and wizardly dueling in the streets is a common occurrence here in the streets of Hereford.

That is our object Lesson with the Hissy's. We built the armor of god and played the book of Mormon stories song from the singles ward soundtrack. It was super fun ha ha

Sprained Ankle

Gadfield Elm - 1st LDS Chapel

Benbo's Farm - Wilford Woodruff baptized like a mission people in 6 months

January 26, 2011 - Hereford

Hey family,
Well things are great in hereford! i just read Kenneth's email and i dunno how he can write so much! Simeon and John took us to Gadfield Elm and Benbo's Farm. It was super duper! maybe we can all go on vacation to England and you guys can check it out cause my explanation wont do it justice. Benbo's farm is where Wilford Woodruff baptized like a million people in six months. and Gadfield elm is the first LDS chapel.
We might be baptizing Mark in april. We have to wait till he gets married to his girlfriend who is a less active. We taught him the first lesson last week and he said he's been thinking of being baptized and We teach him again today. We saw him in the market and he said that he has been reading and praying and he thinks he got an answer! We also had our second lesson with an investigator named Janiece and our first lesson was on the plan of salvation and it was good, But the second one was super duper we had to members come with us to teach her the restoration. THe members are about her age like 22ish one of the members that came with us is a convert, she was converted like 2 years ago and she shared some great experiences. We used THE CUP lesson to teach the restoration. All you return missionaries know what i'm talking about. Well it went fantastic and she'll probably be baptized and then she'll probably convert her whole family and then her brother will probably go on a mission and then it will be awesome, and then we'll probably hangout in the celestial kingdom! if she doesnt get baptized i will be devastated! BUt ya know what? oh well! her loss! she's missing out on the best gift ever!
Oh ya and i sprained my ankle! it was like the size of Nathaniels head! OK maybe not that big! but it was pretty Ginormous. i dunno if i spelled that word correctly but i think its a made up word anyways so it doesnt really matter. THe first day i just took some pain killers and walked . on the THird day i started riding my bike. To be honest it hurts but oh well what can i do! i'll try and send some picture bye bye!
